MusicACT - Communications Officer Position

MusicACT is an industry association that supports the growth of original, contemporary music within the ACT. Since 2011, the organisation has provided creative and professional development through facilitated workshops, conversations and access to industry opportunities. MusicACT builds a professional environment in which the region’s musicians, live music venues and industry professionals can thrive.

Who We Seek

MusicACT is looking for a passionate, resourceful and focused professional to create and deliver all marketing, social media and fundraising campaigns on behalf of the organisation. The right candidate will have a solid understanding of Canberra’s music ecosystem and how best to engage with it through communication. We are looking for someone who can look after these tasks according to a detailed year-round schedule, marketing the organisation’s work effectively.

Position Description

Working under supervision from the Director, the following responsibilities will be looked after by the Communications Officer:

- Maintain and elevate the MusicACT brand through marketing channels, promoting the organisation through social media (including Instagram and Facebook) and music/arts industry websites..

- With support from the Program Manager, create and deliver promotional campaigns to encourage participation in the Professional Development program.

- Design visual assets for digital marketing use, both on social media and by program partners.

- Manage and update the MusicACT website, WOLO listings and MusicPro mailing list.

- Document all public programs for digital promotion and reporting purposes.

- Develop and promote fundraising campaigns, primarily through the Australian Cultural Fund.

- Undertake media responsibilities for the annual MusicACT Music Awards, including managing design briefs, press releases and VIP invite lists.

- Provide copywriting and editing support when needed, collaborating with staff to produce key documents like annual reports and strategic plans.

Selection Criteria

- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.

- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

- Familiar with social media marketing and promotion of music industry opportunities.

- Has a working knowledge of Canva and Mailchimp with interest to learn additional platforms.

- An understanding of the local music ecosystem through participation and/or attendance.

- A willingness to advocate for ACT’s diverse music scene, celebrating its collaborative and equitable spirit.

Communications Officer Position Salary

  • Salary is 0.25 FTE (10 hours per week) at $32.50 per hour, which is approximately $16,900.

  • For a full-time equivalent (FTE) role, this would correspond to an annual salary of $63,375
